Kauai’s West Side enjoys a slower pace than other areas of the Island and feels like a world of its own. Surrounded by spectacular natural wonders including Polihale Beach, the Waimea Canyon and Koke`e State Park, the West side has the least amount of rainfall of anywhere else on the Island. The west side is loved for its consistently dry and sunny climate, small plantation towns, miles of white sand beaches, and stunning sunsets over the Forbidden Island of N`ihau. Both Waimea and Hanapepe have rivers that run through their respective towns. There are a variety of residential communities to choose from on Kauai’s west side, and just one beachfront resort, the Waimea Plantation Cottages. At the far west end of the Island is the Pacific Missile Range at Barking Sands, Kauai’s Naval facility.
